THE PRACTICE TEAM

In order to achieve a comprehensive level of services, together with efficient running of the practice, it is important to have a co-ordinated team. This includes:

The practice development manager, Wendy Bickerstaffe, is responsible for developing the range of services provided for patients.

The practice manager, Sue Kelly, has responsibility for the staff and the day-to-day running of the practice.

The receptionists are fully trained and have a difficult job to do. Please remember that if you are kept waiting or are asked some apparently irritating questions, it is because of our policy aimed at the smooth and safe running of the practice. We need to ascertain the urgency of particular requests and sometimes spend longer with patients than we have allowed. The receptionists deal with requests for appointments and visits, repeat prescriptions, test results and general enquiries.

Practice nurses are mainly involved in caring for patients with chronic illnesses, eg asthma, diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. They are also involved in health promotion, eg dietary advice and smoking cessation and they give travel advice and injections and assist with minor surgery. The nurses see patients by appointment.

Practice Nurse Sue Burrows RGN 1976 DN 1985

Practice Nurse Pauline Walker RGN 1969 SCM 1971 HVC 1975
Practice Nurse Rachel Birch RGN 1995

Our health care assistant, Keely Riley, is available every morning and afternoon to take blood tests and blood pressure checks and she also does health checks on our new patients. In addition our phlebotomist Brenda Porter also takes blood tests.

The Primary Care Trust also employ district nurses and health visitors who work from within the Health Centre.

District nurses provide nursing care for patients unable to leave their homes. They also have a clinic at Ann Street for patients who are able to attend for ear syringing, dressings and removal of stitches. The district nurses can be reached on 0161 336 2434.

Health visitors provide health care advice to all patients, but especially to families with young children and the elderly. The telephone number for the health visitors is 0161 320 7000.

From time to time there may be students working in the practice alongside the practice team. They need to spend some time in general practice as part of their training. If you are seeing a doctor or nurse who has a student with them, you will be asked to give your consent for them to be sitting in on your consultation. However, you have the right to refuse to have a student present.
